Kool-Aid

Kool-Aid was invented by Edwin Perkins in his mother’s kitchen! He actually began with a liquid concentrate called Fruit Smack. However, to reduce shipping costs he found a way to remove the liquid. By doing this, he left a powder behind that was much lighter. He named this powder Kool-Aid.

It was an instant hit! Soon, Perkins was able to move his production from Hastings, Nebraska to Chicago in 1931. Then, in 1953 it was sold to General Foods. However, Hastings still celebrates a yearly festival to honour their city’s claim to fame. In fact, the drink is actually known as Nebraska’s official soft drink!

So, grab a tub or two of this delicious, fruity drink! Go on, you know you want to!
